Dr. Ailsa Colbert is originally from Ontario, Canada, where she graduated from Queen's University with a BS in Life Sciences. She went on to complete her optometry training at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. She graduated with Honors and received awards in contact lens care and pediatrics after rotations in Georgia, North Carolina, and western Pennsylvania. She then worked in the Family Practice residency program at UAB School of Optometry in Birmingham, Alabama before moving to the Berkshires.

Dr. Colbert joined the practice in 2011 and is thrilled to be Berkshire Eye Center's first female eye care provider. She specializes in contact lens fittings and pediatric care, and practices primarily at our Great Barrington location. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists, the American Medical Writing Association, and the Ocular Nutrition Society.

One of her favorite questions to ask patients is, "How do you use your eyes all day?" in order to determine the best type of specialized glasses and contact lenses for each patient. Dr. Colbert also enjoys taking time to get to know her patients, and to educate and speak with them regarding general eye care, health, and nutrition. She especially likes the excitement of new contact lens fittings, as patients experience clear vision without glasses for the first time. She credits her decision to become an optometrist to her hometown optometrist's gift of clear vision through her first pair of glasses as a young girl.

Dr. Colbert lives in Lenox, MA with her family. Her husband, Dr. Adrian Elliot, is an emergency physician and Director of ER Services at Fairview Hospital. They have a 3-year-old daughter, Ailish, and are expecting a new addition to the family in the spring of 2014. She has one sibling, her brother Will Colbert, who is a professional hockey player currently playing in Tilburg, Netherlands. Dr. Colbert's interests include medical writing, baking, pilates, and traveling to visit family in Canada.
