Dr. Jacob J. Moore is a board certified Ophthalmologist who specializes in surgery for the anterior segment of the eye, including minimally invasive cataract surgery, LASIK and refractive surgery, surgical treatment of corneal problems and surgical treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Moore has performed over 10,000 vision correction procedures.
Dr. Moore serves as the Medical Director for Coastal Bend Eye Center, Coastal Bend Ambulatory Surgical Center, and South Texas Laser Vision. He serves on the Executive Board of the Nueces County Medical Society and the Executive Board of the Texas Ophthalmological Association. He is the Chief of Ophthalmology for the Christus Spohn Hospital System. Dr. Moore is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Castroviejo Cornea Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Texas Medical Association and the American Medical Association.
After earning a BS degree in Chemistry from Emory University, Dr. Moore was accepted into The University of Texas Southwestern School of Medicine in Dallas. He then did his Internship and Ophthalmology Residency training at the Medical College of Georgia where he was selected as the Chief Resident for the class of 2006. From 2006-2009, Dr. Moore served the residents of the Rio Grande Valley as the lead cataract surgeon at Valley Eye Center in Harlingen, TX. During that time, Dr. Moore performed thousands of successful cataract, implant and laser surgeries. In addition Dr. Moore performs surgery for patients with glaucoma and corneal disease, and he was the first surgeon in South Texas to perform the new advanced technique of corneal endothelial transplantation by DSAEK.In 2009, Dr. Moore relocated to Corpus Christi, and joined the practice of Paul K. Ayars, M.D. As his practice grew, Dr. Moore joined Dr. Jack Sahadi at Coastal Bend Eye Center and Ambulatory Surgical Center, and took lead as Medical Director for the group.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Moore has been involved in research for the duration of his career. At Emory University Dr. Moore was awarded fellowships by the National Science Foundation in Physical and Organic chemistry and was chosen as the departments’ Hypercube scholar in 1996. Before attending medical school Dr. Moore performed private research electrochemistry and electronically conducting polymers for applications in space science, stealth technology and the natural gas industry. In medical school Dr. Moore studied the relationships between depression and asthma. And during his ophthalmology training Dr. Moore studied interventional pain management techniques for ophthalmology, the use of photo-polymerized methacrylate adhesives in ophthalmic surgery, and new methods of preserving donor corneas in eye banking. Dr. Moore’s research has been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented at local and national meetings.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Moore enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. When not at the office or with his family, you can find him enjoying such pursuits as kitesurfing, bicycling or spending time on the beach.
