Gregory M. Lewis, M.D. is a board-certified ophthalmologist with over 14 years of experience specializing in vitreoretinal surgery and ocular trauma care. Dr. Lewis earned a B.S. from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, before continuing on to earn his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. After an internship in Memphis, he completed a three-year ophthalmology residency at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.

Dr. Lewis was fellowship trained in Birmingham, AL at the Helen Keller Foundation and the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Throughout his career he has completed a large body of research on topics ranging from "Use of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Inhibitors for Retinal Disease" to “Prophylactic Silicone Oil Placement For Retinal Detachments.”

He is active within the ophthalmology community and has been a member or is currently a member of the Duval County Medical Society; Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology; American Academy of Ophthalmology; American Society of Ocular Trauma; International Society of Ocular Trauma; and the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology.

He has been honored and recognized throughout his career with various grants and awards including the National Eye Institute Travel Grant Recipient for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology Annual Meeting, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. (2006); Resident Research Award, Virginia Society of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting (2003) and the Family Medicine Summer Preceptorship Grant (1998).

Dr. Lewis lives in Decatur, where he enjoys spending his free time with his wife and three daughters.
